Deliberate (part 1)
Take a moment to consider the areas of your life that matter most. It could be developing relationships with friends and family, working on your health and fitness, managing your finances, working on your studies or career, or maybe growing your spiritual life. We all have areas that are important and can use some improvement. The question is, how should we address these areas thoughtfully, purposefully, and intentionally. And the answer is to begin with attention and awareness. Then follow that by deciding to take action. We have to make our action a daily practice. An intentional practice. A deliberate practice.
As we develop our habits and routines, we are setting ourselves up for long-term success. The last couple of weeks I've written about how changing our habits can change our lives. Over time we develop specific habits that allow us to do certain tasks on autopilot. This allows us to free our minds for more important tasks. Our daily habits and routines are critically important, because they help us stay on track for the long term. For that reason, every habit needs a strong why, where, and how.
Why do we need to perform this task daily? The habit helps you perform tasks automatically and with little thought or effort but the reason should be clear.
Where is this task taking us? if you consistently perform a certain task, it should be leading you toward a specific long term goal you have chosen. The habit keeps you moving so the path should be clear.
How can this task be improved? This is a vital question because this question helps you approach your tasks and practices intentionally and deliberately.
Today, take a few minutes to examine the areas of your life that matter most. The areas I try to address that matter most to me are my faith, family, finances, fitness, career, connection, commitments, and contributions. Consider one or more of these areas that needs improvement but already has a regular a strong habit to address it. Next week we'll take a deeper look into how we can address these areas more intentionally by practicing more deliberately.
Enjoy the day!
