Defining the Dream
Feedback and Bumbling
Last week I reached out and asked for some feedback as I work to more fully develop a writing project. This project combines the idea of intentional daily living and the concept of “living the dream.” This is an exploration what an intentional life looks like and how we can each work toward our own version that life. As I stumble and bumble down this path, I would like some company. Adventures are more enjoyable when you share them. In successes and failures, it’s good to be in good company. Thanks for coming along. Let the bumbling begin...
Peace in the Process
The natural starting point is to more clearly define what it means to "live the dream." I believe that a dream life is a life with purpose, direction, and meaning. Living that dream life is an active process, and in order to live the life we want to live, we need to take daily action. We can dream and plan all we want, but we also need to act with intention in order to make small daily gains. I love the John F. Kennedy quote, "Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures." Huge gains are made incrementally and gradually, and we can find peace in knowing that today's small gains are necessary to build our dream life. And this, I believe, is a key thought...
...to live the dream, we need to be at peace in the process.
Enjoy the Day
I typically close my blog posts with the phrase, “enjoy the day.” If we intend to live our dream life, we have to act today. Even if we are still far from our ultimate goals, we can be at peace in the process and enjoy today's progress. John Wooden said that "success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming." Enjoy those gains you make today no matter how small.
Share and Smile
So now it’s your turn. What is one thought you had while reading this? Make a comment below or send me a quick email. I am excited to hear your thoughts. While I’m on a quote kick, here’s a great one from Thich Nhat Hanh. “If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.”
Do some peace work today. Stumble and bumble a little. Share your thoughts. Embrace the process. And enjoy the day!
