The Next 7 Minutes
But First, How Did Your First 7 Minutes Go? My first seven minutes were a success. And as expected I also failed. You may recall, the experiment we began last week was to spend one minute a day on a project for twenty-eight days. My first week was a success, because I showed up every day and logged my intentional sixty seconds on my project. The failure was that every day, I went well over my planned sixty seconds. On average, I spent twenty minutes each day on my project. One day I went about an hour over time. So in this regard, it was a bit of a “failure.” But this is clearly a positive failure because that’s exactly what I expected to happen. I anticipated that getting to the starting line would be the toughest part each day. I knew that once I showed up, the hard part was over. Then I just had to keep moving. I’m Not Changing Anything This week, I’m going to keep the same goal. This experiment has not changed. I still plan to work one minute a day and make a tiny bit of progress. The habit of showing up is easy goal. The underlying goal to quit putting this off, to get moving, and to keep moving forward once I start moving. Will I Complete My Project in 28 Days? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, I’m not too concerned. I do intend to share my complete or incomplete project with you on day twenty-eight, and I’m hoping some of you will also share your project progress with me as well. I haven’t had a lot of feedback from fellow participants, but I enjoy hearing what projects you’ve been working on. So if you don’t mind, keep me in the loop if you’re joining in. Too Late to Start? Absolutely not. If you want to start day one today, go for it. If you want to restart day one today, go for it. Whatever you’ve been putting off until “later,” consider today “the first day of later.” Start your one minute right now. Go for it. See You In Seven Minutes Go, ready, set! Get going even if you’re not ready or set. My eighth minute is now complete. How about you? Let’s do this. Let’s get started and let’s have an awesome next seven minutes!
