Slow, No, Grow, Go
Taking It Slow
For the first time in eighteen years, I am slowing down. A few weeks ago, I was gearing up for my busiest time of year. My days would be packed with teaching and coaching. My evenings would be short and my mornings would be early. Early spring means acceleration so I find myself in unfamiliar territory. Taking it slow.
Being Told No
For the first time in eighteen years, I cannot spend time with “my kids.” We teachers and coaches build relationships. This takes time. Our students and athletes are our kids. We invest heavily in them, preparing them to perform well, but it’s so much more than that. It’s about the time and the relationships. Again, unfamiliar territory. Being told no.
Time To Grow
For the first time in eighteen years, I get to reimagine my spring. I know I will see “my kids” again, but how I teach and coach will look different. Fortunately, slowing down lead to clarity. In this unfamiliar territory, we can reframe obstacles as opportunities for creativity. Life’s uncontrollables create time to adapt. Time to transform. Time to grow.
Here We Go
For the first time in eighteen years, I plan to take time to take it in. We all find ourselves in this unfamiliar territory. As our “normal” changes and evolves, let's embrace the mystery that lies ahead. Let’s reimagine and dream and create and grow. On the other side of this, let’s be better because of it. We owe it to our families and “our kids.” Let’s do this. Here we go.
