Seeking and Finding Meaning

"There are three main avenues on which one arrives at meaning in life. The first is by creating a work or doing a deed. The second is by experiencing something or encountering someone; in other words, meaning can be found not only in work but also in love...Most important, however, is the third avenue to meaning in life: even the helpless victim of a hopeless situation, facing a fate he cannot change, may rise above himself, may grow beyond himself, and by so doing change himself." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning

Seeking a Foundation

Frankl believed that every human has at their core a deep desire to find meaning in life. I agree. I am convinced that we are all in a never-ending search for meaning. And as we gain insights and make breakthroughs, more questions emerge that take us to a search on an ever-deepening level.

Seeking Peace

Over the past several months, I’ve spent time in contemplation regarding my spiritual life. Looking back over the years (and decades), I’ve struggled and wrestled with many spiritual questions. I know that most of my questions will go unanswered, but I feel the most peace in life when I continue to just embrace the mystery and move forward in faith and trust.

Seeking Love

In the next few paragraphs, I’m going to share some thoughts and scriptures that I love and hold dear. These passages have helped center me, give me peace, and show me purpose. Our paths and spiritual journeys are unique to each of us. I love the process of seeking, and as you read through these verses that I have been drawn to, I encourage you to seek some truths that encourage you and give you purpose and meaning.

Finding a Foundation

So where do we find a foundation? Look to the Son (Mark 12:30-31), look to the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and look to the Father (Rom 12:1-2). Love God, love others. Live with love, joy, peace, and patience. Be transformed.

Finding Peace

So where do we find peace? Look to the Son (Luke 2:10,14), look to the Spirit (Philippians 4:6-10), and look to the Father (Psalm 46:10). Do not be afraid. Do not be anxious. Be still and know.

Finding Love

So where do we find love? Look to the Son (1 John 4:7-8), look to the Spirit (Romans 8:38), and look to the Father (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). Love one another, love comes from God, God is love. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Love is patient, love is kind, love never fails.

We are all on a search for meaning. I’m just a guy on that same search. My hope today is that you find a foundation, find some peace, and find some love. My hope is that you and I find meaning today and continue to find meaning tomorrow, and in all the tomorrows we have after that. You are a blessing, a precious gift to this world. Your life is a blessing, a precious gift to you and everyone who knows you. Keep living, keep searching, and keep finding. God bless you today.
