Start Continuing

I thought I was pretty clever when I came up with my Foundational Four.

When I identified four areas in life that need daily intention and attention.

I surmised these four areas require balance.

And when we attend to them, we have a better sense of wellbeing.

And thus, we are living our lives in a compelling way.

These areas are our faith, our family, our finances, and our fitness.

If any of these areas are lacking or in need of repair, it takes a toll on the other three.

These four areas help lay the foundation for a well-lived life.

And this is me, laying a foundation that I would continue to build upon.

I've given a lot of thought and attention to these areas of my life with varying levels of intensity.

I continue to build and to lay new foundations.

And it occurred to me that we are forever in a state of foundation building.

We have these lives, constructed with daily choices.

We build our identities, yet we never really arrive.

We just keep building and growing and changing and evolving.

In a way, it looks like it could be discouraging.

The idea that we will never be exonerated from challenges.

But I think this is good.

It is in the challenges and struggles, no matter how small, that we grow.

And that we change. And that we evolve.

And that we lay a new foundation.

So this morning as I think about my faith,

my family, my finances, and my fitness.

I think about the foundations I have laid over the years.

And the foundations that I continue to lay today.

We are never exonerated.

And this is why our foundations are strong.

This is why our lives are compelling.

This is why our lives are well lived.

Let's start continuing to build a foundation.

And build on it again and again and again.
