The Renewing
Again and again, it's time for some renewing.
A season behind me, a new one awaits.
I continue to move from theory to practice toward mastery in life.
And with each step forward, my target adjusts and refines.
I gained a little more clarity and a bit more strength.
A little more serenity, courage, and wisdom.
I stand here at the end and the beginning.
Entering this school year, I had thoughts, visions, and plans.
I tried some things, and I adjusted.
I experimented, failed, tried again, and found some successes.
Over and over again, I looked ahead to my targets.
Then I looked behind at the path that led to this point.
I then focused on the day and the moment given to me.
Memento mori. Seize the day.
That season is now behind me.
This new season lies ahead.
And I will approach this season as I did the one before.
Thinking about this day.
Taking care of this moment.
Seeking peace and patience in the present.
This morning, I read an affirmation I had written months ago.
Today may I recognize Christ's strength and rest,
God's stillness and peace,
the Spirit's courage and freedom.
Then, I read these words from Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
Be imitators of God...and live a life of love,
just as Christ loved us.
Today is a day of renewing.
As is this season that lies ahead.
As did the season that closed behind me.
And I will greet it with gratefulness and appreciation.
I will participate in it fully and celebrate that gift.
May my treasure always be in loving and serving and connecting.
May I always live with purpose, on purpose, and for a purpose.
May I be renewed, day by day and season by season.
Always, starting today.
