The Threshold

Every day, we are offered a threshold of adventure.

The question is always, "Do we cross it?"

The threshold is a point where we act on a decision.

Every day, we have a choice.

To step forward into growth or back into safety.

Every day, we have the opportunity.

To enter an extraordinary day or be satisfied in an ordinary world.

We stand at the threshold.

"Do we cross it?"

I have made a decision.

Every week, I will enter this world.

This world of writing and sharing.

Ready or not, good or not.

I enter, write, and share.

Over the course of the week, I prepare my mind for action.

Spending time in silence, meditation, and prayer.

Every day I prepare by reading.

Purposefully and intentionally focusing my time and energy on learning.

Every day I practice the craft.

Experimenting on the playground and in the laboratory of journal writing.

I sort through these thoughts and prepare a few words to share.

Here in this weekly blog.

Knowing few will read these words.

Completely at peace in knowing I am the primary consumer.

And that is okay and enough.

And I am grateful for this process.

For this adventure.

I used to feel uneasy sharing these thoughts.

Sharing a glimpse behind the curtain.

Not so much anymore.

I understand that I'm on an adventure.

Every day and every week I'm stepping forward over the threshold.

I'm on my journey, and there's no reason to be afraid or ashamed to admit it.

Because I know that I share this truth will everyone.

We all stand here at the threshold.

This place that takes us to another place.

This place where we begin our departure.

This place that begins our transition and transformation.

So another day's journey begins.

Leaving my ordinary world and taking on the day's adventure.

Knowing I'll return home with the gift.

The treasure this day will give me.

This mysterious something that I can only imagine.

Until I allow it to unfold.

Moment to moment, day to day, and week to week.

This gift of life.

This gift given that must be given in order to fully be realized.

As we honor the Giver of Life this weekend, may we also be givers.

May we have the faith to trust, hope to be open, and love to connect.

And may we fearlessly cross our thresholds.

No matter how small they may seem in the moment.

They are worth the step.

To us and to those around us.

"Do we cross it?"

Yes, let's do.

Let's go ahead.

Let's cross it.

Today.
